The 3rd
International Forum on Education
for Sustainable Development
November
13-16, 2007
Beijing, China
In order to further promote the effective integration of Education
for Sustainable Development (ESD) with school practices across our
regional and global communities, the Beijing Academy of Educational
Sciences, supervised by the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO,
has organized our 3rd International Forum on ESD in Beijing to be
held from November 13-16, 2007.
The previous two International Forums for ESD held in Beijing were
very successful in encouraging an excellent global consensus and
a sharing of local ESD practices.
- The first forum was held in 2003 and was focused on preparing
us for the upcoming UN Decade for ESD (UN DESD 2005-2014) and
had the theme: "Towards the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable
Development".
- Our second forum, in 2005, had the theme of "Bridging International
Visions with National Actions". There were approximately
300 officials, experts, and school administrators in attendance
at the forum from 18 countries representing 4 continents:Asia,
Africa, Europe, and North America, also from 8 related international
organizations such as UNESCO, UNDP, UNEP and more. The particpants
discussed the vision and further strategies to use the International
Implementation Scheme (IIS) of the UN DESD locally. This enhanced
the group's understanding of the goal and the IIS, and contributed
to establishing an international consensus on promoting UN DESD,
carrying out scientific concepts of development proposed by the
Chinese government and helping to advance educational reform and
development in China.
